Movie Review By The Awesome Maria 'Hamlet' Gimik!
Warning: Spoilers may appear and might seriously piss you off. Then again, I always seem to have a penchant for pissing people off. It's a gift endowed to me.
So after 7 years of friendship, a mate of mine finally realized what an amazing friend I am and decided to give me free passes (and FOOD) to the latest 'Harold & Kumar: Escape from Guantanamo Bay'. And I had to wait 7 years for this. Sheesh.
The movie, how should I put this, reflects upon the general intellectual wavelengths of the Generation Y. 'Harold & Kumar' can be described as the modern version of the quintessential classic that is 'Catcher in the Rye'........
Nahhhhhhh. Who am I kidding.
Basically, if you do not like slapstick, if you frown upon the frequent distasteful sexual and toilet humour, if you do not appreciate racist and political jokes, DO NOT watch it.
As for me, I absolutely enjoyed it!
Harold falls for this chick, Maria (Yes, I know, many hot women are named Maria, just like yours truly), and learns that she has flewn off to Amsterdam. Certain that Maria is his one true love, he decides to grab the next flight to Amsterdam, bringing Kumar along, to profess his devotion to her. Kumar's just there for all the legal weed. Yes, I like his style.
However, Kumar, the genius, brings along a smokeless bong into the plane and decides to smoke weed ON the plane too. A paranoid white old woman sees this and shouts 'TERRORIST!'. A trippy Kumar goes 'Relax man, it's just a bong'. The passengers all go 'OH MY GOD. BOMB!'
(Here, I'm laughing cos it's so freaking hilarious)
So here, Harold & Kumar gets locked up in Guantanamo Bay with all the other 'terrorists'. They eventually escape. How they escape you say? Well, I won't say cos I know for a fact Kevin's blog is patronized by numerous young kids. And I am not one to pollute innocence.
My favourite dialogue picked from the movie (from memory la):
Terrorist: 'We 'terrorists' would not exist if your government would not do what they are doing to other nations now. You stupid americans would know that if you weren't always eating your stupid donuts!'
Kumar: 'F*** YOU! DONUTS ARE AWESOME!'
HAHAHAHA. OH god. That cracks me up. Totally kills Maria! Hahaha.
So anyway, watch it if you're above 18 and if you're looking for spastic humour (which is totally my kinda thing).
If you're Malaysian, like my dearest Kevin, don't even hope to catch it in Malaysian cinemas. Come to Singapore, or... do what you guys do best. And no, it isn't selling us water and fluctuating the prices very so often, likening it to Britney's weight changes. It's the OTHER thing Malaysia is good at. The OTHER thing.

Crysis and the Big Bang
I've been rather quiet lately because I was up to two things:
- Playing Crysis - the most amazing first person shooter (FPS) that I have ever seen.
- Watching The Big Bang Theory - wonderful comedy about two socially inept prodigies who are living across the hall to a beautiful blond bombshell.
Crysis is an awesome, AWESOME game. It is so good that it is worth the money to get a proper system that can run this extremely processor crunching game. Crysis is not only good because it looks stunning - trust me, the visuals look photorealistic - but because it has one of the best gameplay in a first person shooter that I have ever seen. Killing North Korean soldiers never was so fun because Crysis has excellent AI which enables the soldiers to duck for cover, attack in squads and ambush you among other things. The functionality of the nanosuit that your character, codename Nomad wears also adds a whole new dimension into the game. With just the click of a button, you can alternate between several powers that your nanosuit possesses. You can be in either strength mode, which enables you to jump extra high and snap enemies necks with a simple melee attack; armour mode, which enables you to absorb extra punishment; speed mode, which allows you to move at superhuman speeds; and stealth mode, which allows you to cloak and move around invisible for a short amount of time.
If Crysis had one flaw as a game - it's that it ended with one of those darned irritating cliffhangers, making me impatiently wait a couple of months before the next installment is released. Oh well, I guess Crytek just wants to milk more cash out of their killer app, but I prefer my games to provide a little more closure before we start thinking of the expansion pack. Blizzard did it just fine with Starcraft and its expansion pack, Brood War. At least loose ends were tied up after every story so you don't have this horrible, horrible feeling inside you wanting to know what happens in the next scene at least.
The Big Bang Theory is this wonderful new series that is a must watch for anyone with an inner geek inside them. While I must say that some of the jokes here are kinda hard to catch (for example, Sheldon talks about the Mandelbrot set of complex numbers as a metaphor for Penny's messy room) you are in for one hell of a laugh if you get the jokes. And besides, don't we all love to watch (and root) for the nice, well meaning geek (who indulges in Halo 3 and World of Warcraft) in his quest to get his dream girl?

So if you're a closet geek, just make sure to just watch this series because it's really going to make you laugh till your tummy hurts (or it could be just me relating to it too much).
The theme song for The Big Bang Theory is pretty good and the Barenaked Ladies did quite a good job with it.

The Rambo (4) Review
Just back from watching Rambo 4: John Rambo from Cineleisure and I must admit that Rambo 4 is the goriest Rambo ever. People were being shot from the first few minutes the movie started, all the way to the end - the mark of a true Rambo movie.
The main problem I have with this Rambo is that there isn't enough of Rambo, hiding in the jungle, being an one man army with his machine guns and booby traps. Well, there was a claymore and some real action with a 50-cal, but that was just plain brutal killing. I enjoyed Rambo more when he was running about the forest, building traps and ambushing his enemies (as well as shooting down a helicopter with his bow and arrow) That was good stuff.
Only recommended if you need mindless violence, minus any semblance of a plot.
If that's what the doctor ordered, Rambo 4 is just the show for you.
